Francesca Ponziani was born in Trastevere in 1384, into a family whose houses stood in this same stretch of the neighborhood. She could have lived the quiet life expected of a noblewoman of her class. Instead, in 1425, she opened a hospital for the sick and the poor a few steps from here — one that’s still standing, still in use, six centuries later. Rome eventually made her its patron saint, alongside Peter and Paul. But she started as a woman of this exact riverbank, doing something practical for the people living on it.

The private bathroom has an Italian-designed gres tile finish and a 120cm double sensory shower for two, with a wide rainfall shower head and LED lighting. Bathroom amenities are from the Acqua di Colonia line — a high-end selection built entirely around the Mediterranean fragrance experience.
The room is equipped with air conditioning, fast fiber Wi-Fi, a 32″ Smart TV with Pay TV and free Netflix, an electronic safe, hairdryer, pillows of varying softness and a full luxury vanity set, plus extra blankets and 100% Italian cotton towels and linens. A hot drink kettle station and a mini-bar stocked with Italian specialties, organic and gluten-free products, and a selection of wines complete the room.
